Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 12-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) within a busy, large Level 1 Trauma facility, maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 to 1:3 depending on acuity
- Care for a complex patient population including liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgeries, ENT oncology, abdominal surgeries, and patients with compromised airways
- Titrate vasoactive and sedation drips including vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene
- Manage critical care equipment and interventions including CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, mechanical ventilators, and various surgical drains
- Independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips using Philips monitoring systems; no monitor technicians on unit
- Float to other ICUs within the facility as needed, with skill set considered for assignment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records required
- Must be open to floating to other ICUs within the facility
- Must be flexible with scheduling; no self-scheduling available — schedule is based on unit needs
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 3 or more years of ICU/SICU experience, ideally in a high-volume hospital environment
- Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to recognize early changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately to providers
- Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and titration of complex drip protocols
