Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 12-bed SICU at a busy, large Level 1 Trauma facility, maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity and census
- Manage complex post-surgical and critically ill patients including liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgery, ENT/oncology, abdominal surgery, and airway-compromising conditions
- Titrate a wide range of vasoactive and sedation drips including vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene
- Perform and monitor advanced critical care interventions including CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tube management, ventilator management, and care of various drains and surgical sites
- Independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips using Philips monitoring equipment (no monitor techs on unit)
- Float to other ICUs within the facility as needed — travelers are first to float; skill set will be considered for assignment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible to work in Texas
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience in a high-acuity ICU setting
- Must be open to floating to other ICUs within the facility
- Must be flexible with scheduling based on unit needs; no self-scheduling
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
- Experience in a high-volume, Level 1 Trauma or similarly busy hospital environment
- Strong critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to recognize early changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately to providers
- Hands-on experience with CRRT, ventilator management, and titration of complex vasoactive drip protocols
