Job Title
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Ortho/Bariatric/Colorectal Post-Op)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays required; travelers must work two of the three winter holidays
Key Responsibilities
- Provide post-operative care for orthopedic, spinal surgery, bariatric, and colorectal surgery patients on a 28-bed elective surgery and Level III trauma unit
- Monitor and manage care for Level III trauma patients and Medical-Surgical overflow as census permits
- Manage telemetry monitoring for up to 8 patients simultaneously
- Maintain a typical patient ratio of 1:7
- Demonstrate proficiency in Epic EMR — required, no exceptions
- Complete required pre-start compliance modules (approximately 3 hours, completed prior to start date)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of recent, relevant Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RN experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association — required
- ACLS certification through the American Heart Association — required
- No prior license or background hits; any history will disqualify a candidate from consideration
- Facility cannot accommodate a PAPR; any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate from consideration
- Must pass an EKG/telemetry competency test with a score of 80% or higher (one attempt, no remediation; failure results in contract cancellation)
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in orthopedic, bariatric, or colorectal post-operative nursing care
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring including rhythm interpretation, interval measurements, and identification of complex arrhythmias
- Comfort with higher patient ratios in a fast-paced surgical/trauma environment
