Registered Nurse – NICU / Special Care Nursery (SCN)

Gilbert, AZ | Level II Special Care Nursery (NICU)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 12-Hour Shifts | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to neonatal patients 32 weeks gestational age and above in a 12-bed Level II Special Care Nursery with an average census of 10
  • Manage patients with diagnoses including CPAP, High Flow, feeder/grower status, rule-out/suspected sepsis, and hyperbilirubinemia
  • Independently start all peripheral IVs on neonatal patients; a certified neonatal PICC team is available for PICC line placement
  • Maintain patient ratios of typically 3:1, adjusting to 2:1 based on acuity
  • Complete a pass/fail Sim Lab assessment (Foley catheter insertion) on Day 1 of orientation (study guides provided)
  • Float to a sister facility NICU as required per floating policy

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years of NICU experience required
  • Level II NICU experience required
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, within the past 12 months
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Level III NICU experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with CPAP and High Flow oxygen therapy in a neonatal setting
  • Familiarity with neonatal peripheral IV insertion
