Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC / PCU / Stepdown (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)

Contract | Nights | 3 × 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 31-bed Neuroscience Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), maintaining a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio on the Stepdown side and 1:5–6 on the EMU floor
- Care for higher-acuity neuroscience patients including those with strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EVDs, and monitor and implement NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments
- Administer and monitor set-rate and protocol-driven drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin per physician orders
- Collaborate with a 24/7 Charge Nurse, nurse aides, and Respiratory Therapy staff who manage floor ventilators; RNs are not required to independently manage ventilators
- Participate in weekend rotation (every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule) and holiday rotation as required
- Maintain flexibility for potential float assignments to sister units within the facility
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing; any license history issues must be disclosed at time of submission
- BLS certification required and must be in hand at time of submission
- NIHSS certification required and must be in hand at time of submission
- Strong, demonstrated Neuroscience / Neuro Stepdown clinical experience, including a history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale assessments
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
- COVID-19 vaccination required (fully vaccinated: 2-dose Moderna or Pfizer series, or single-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification preferred
- Experience with External Ventricular Drains (EVDs)
- Prior travel nursing experience in a Neuro Stepdown or comparable high-acuity inpatient setting
