Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown – Cardiac/Neuro)

Contract | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Expected 36 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a blended Stepdown/Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit (19 beds) serving post-procedure cardiac and neurological patient populations
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency testing
- Initiate and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin
- Perform NIHSS and comprehensive neurological assessments; provide care for CVA, seizure, and TBI patients
- Manage post-heart cath care (femoral and TR bands), chest tubes, PIV insertion, and sepsis protocols
- Float within skillset to sister campuses with a minimum of 2 hours notice for cross-campus float; may precept students and new hires as this is a teaching environment
Required Qualifications
- Current active multistate (compact) RN license required
- AHA BLS certification required
- AHA ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of solid Stepdown experience plus at least 1 travel contract, OR 5 years of solid Stepdown experience with no travel experience
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Recent hands-on experience with Epic EMR (a checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Experience caring for post-procedure cardiac patients including cath/stents, pacers, ICD, and ablation procedures
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills with experience managing STEMI/NSTEMI, DKA, carotid endarterectomy, and sepsis patients
- Prior travel nursing experience in a Stepdown or PCU setting
