Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM) | Every other weekend required | Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16, managing a 1:2–3 nurse-to-patient ratio for adult patients
- Care for patients with complex diagnoses including trauma, cardiac conditions, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress, post-stent, pacemaker placement, and vascular cases
- Titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation medications
- Read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips using GE monitoring equipment; tele tech oversight is also in place
- Manage patients on respiratory support ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation in coordination with respiratory therapy
- Float as needed, typically to PCU and occasionally to Med/Surg, maintaining the standard patient ratio for those units (1:4 or 1:5)
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must successfully pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; compliance is required for contract continuation
- If placed on call and called back in, candidate must be able to arrive within 30 minutes
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; a valid driver's license will be required at time of submittal to verify eligibility
- Candidates currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior ICU experience with a diverse adult patient population including cardiac, trauma, and neurological cases
- Experience titrating vasoactive and sedation drips in a critical care setting
- Familiarity with GE cardiac monitoring systems and telemetry interpretation
- Experience working with patients on mechanical ventilation and other advanced respiratory support
