Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a high-volume emergency department seeing approximately 50 patients per day, maintaining a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio across 21 private rooms, 2 trauma bays, 1 resuscitation room, and 2 triage rooms
- Perform primary triage and manage patient care from arrival through disposition, including management of ER holds intermixed within the department
- Monitor patients on telemetry, read and document cardiac strips per standards of care, and perform EKGs as required by ED staff
- Draw labs (approximately 90% of labs drawn by the primary nurse), and collaborate with respiratory therapy on patients requiring ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Demonstrate competency in caring for pediatric patients in a pediatric readiness certified environment
- Document all patient care using EPIC EMR and adhere to facility fingernail policy — artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure
- Minimum 1–2 years of emergency room nursing experience with demonstrated competency in pediatric patient care
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, ENPC, TNCC, NIHSS, and a de-escalation certification
- Proficiency with EPIC EMR
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and/or Dignity Health) are not eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience managing a broad range of emergency presentations including cardiac, respiratory, neurological (stroke), oncologic, and trauma cases
- Familiarity with portable X-ray workflows and CT transport coordination in an emergency setting
- Prior experience in a trauma-designated emergency department
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and caring for patients in psychiatric or seclusion settings
