Contract | 12-Hour Nights (18:45–07:15) | 3x12 per week | 36- and 48-hour weeks may be available | Contracts of 16 weeks or longer considered, through February 27, 2027
Key Responsibilities
- Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a sub-specialized neurological and medical intermediate patient population with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio on a 24-bed unit
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, including levophed (LEVO), and manage IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols
- Monitor and interpret telemetry/dysrhythmias; respond to and coordinate with Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
- Manage complex neurological patients including those with CVA, intracranial bleeds, traumatic brain injury, craniotomy, lumbar drains, and post-TPA care; Neuro Stepdown experience is strongly preferred and must be disclosed if limited
- Perform and oversee respiratory management including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, and ventilated patient care
- Float as needed to other intermediate areas and critical care (ICU/Stepdown) within or near the facility; expected to work a minimum of 3 weekend shifts every six weeks
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Epic EMR experience required; unit also uses Pyxis and SBAR
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Demonstrated proficiency in Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry settings; cardiac monitoring, emergency response, neurological/psychiatric, respiratory, IV therapy, and wound care skills required as detailed in the specialty skill set
- Local candidates are welcome; a lower bill rate applies for candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Port access/management and phlebotomy experience
- Experience with triage, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, and conscious sedation
- Charge nurse experience
- Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, and/or CPI
