Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care on a 36-bed Neuro Med-Surg/Telemetry unit serving patients with neurologic diagnoses including CVA, ischemic stroke, epilepsy, seizures, radiculopathy, cervical stenosis, rhabdomyolysis, post-laminectomy, post-ACDF, post-craniotomy, and ETOH withdrawal
- Manage pre- and post-neurosurgery patients as well as those with spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury
- Utilize continuous bedside EEG monitoring, telemetry, and bladder scanning in accordance with unit protocols
- Perform feeding-tube care, pre/post-hemodialysis care, surgical drain management, wound care/wound VAC, oxygen administration, and isolation/PPE procedures
- Document patient care accurately using the Cerner electronic health record system
- Float to Med-Surg and Med-Surg/Telemetry units within scope based on facility needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid Maryland RN license or Compact RN license required at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience required
- Neurology experience required, including CVA/acute stroke care and pre/post-neurosurgery
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
- Basic EKG assessment via Prophecy Relias required and must be successfully completed prior to orientation
- Maryland-approved trauma education required; 8 hours of annual stroke CEs and 4 hours of annual trauma-related CEs required
- Every other weekend and holiday is required; no time off on hard-to-fill days (e.g., Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day); every other winter and summer holiday is required with no time off approved on those days
- Local candidates are welcome
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred
- Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certification preferred
