Contract | 12-Hour Night Shifts (18:45–07:15) | Friday, Saturday & Sunday | Expected 36 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity, fast-paced cardiac and stroke stepdown unit managing stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients
- Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone; experience with PCI and TR bands required
- Monitor and care for patients with diagnoses including unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, and low-risk chest pain
- Perform IV starts and continuous telemetry monitoring; operate pulse oximetry and high-flow O2 equipment
- Manage patient assignments with expected ratios of 1:5–6, with comfort managing up to 6 patients during surge; unit typically turns over 78–90 patients per week
- Participate in on-call and float requirements as determined by patient census and unit needs; self-scheduling with leadership oversight
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
- Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and care of pre/post cardiac procedure patients
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Local candidates (within 50 miles of the facility) are welcome to apply; a different rate applies for local candidates
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers will be considered
- Familiarity with Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication framework
- Experience caring for patients on BiPAP (chronic use), non-rebreather masks, and high-flow oxygen therapy
- Comfort with high patient turnover environments and rapid admission/discharge workflows
