Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed cardiac stepdown unit covering cardiothoracic/cardiovascular surgery and cardiac medical patients (CHF, AFib w/ RVR, post-CABG, chest tubes, pacemakers, and more)
- Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
- Read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitoring system
- Manage patients on BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen
- Support fast-paced room turnover with high admission and discharge volumes; average census of 32–38 patients per shift
- Float to ICU as needed; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting — required without exception
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Comfort with cardiac drip management and titration
- Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility (as verified by address on driver's license) to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification preferred
- Experience pulling pacer wires (orientation available for those without this skill)
- ICU-level nursing experience (may allow for expanded float assignments)
- Familiarity with Meditech EMR
