Registered Nurse – Emergency Department Holding Unit

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Weekdays with every other weekend required | Float to ED as needed
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care within an ED Holding Unit setting, serving an adult and geriatric population at a patient-to-nurse ratio of 5:1
- Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including accessing ports, blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, and starting IVs
- Administer and manage medications including Heparin protocols and cardiac drips (no titration)
- Monitor and care for patients with neurological and psychiatric conditions including CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal
- Manage respiratory support modalities including external CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen face masks, and non-invasive airway management; care of ventilated patients and tracheostomy management preferred
- Document patient care accurately using CERNER (required) and SBAR charting methodology
Required Qualifications
- Active WV or Compact RN License required; candidates may submit with a pending license but must have an active license in hand prior to start
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year of in-specialty (Emergency Room/ED Holding) experience
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required — must be through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- CPI certification required — must be scheduled and obtained more than 1 week prior to start date
- Proficiency with CERNER electronic health records is required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption documentation from an allergist or physician may be accepted
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the standard rate
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Med/Surg, Telemetry, and/or ER Holding Unit experience strongly preferred
- Experience with care of ventilated patients and tracheostomy management
- First-time travelers with appropriate specialty experience will be considered
