Travel RN – Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CICU/CVICU)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 13 Weeks | Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Rotating weekends (Saturday & Sunday on days) | No on-call required | Tuesday start dates available
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric cardiac ICU and step-down level patients within an acuity-adaptive care model, with patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or up to 1:3 based on census and acuity
- Manage and monitor arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines; assist with central line and arterial line placement
- Support pre-operative and post-operative management of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), including post-op recovery from general and cardiac procedures and sternal closures
- Perform or assist with procedures including intubation/extubation, conscious sedation, ECMO cannulation and decannulation, CRRT, and manual PD
- Respond to and participate in code situations as needed
- Document patient care accurately using Meditech EMR; may float to PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, or pediatric oncology as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in Texas (or compact eligibility)
- Minimum 1 year of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience as a staff nurse
- 3–4 prior travel contracts in a dedicated Pediatric CICU
- Demonstrated experience caring for patients with congenital heart disease and post-operative CHD management
- Experience managing arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines
- Required certifications: PALS, BLS, and ACLS
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 2 or more years of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse
- At least 1 year of experience caring for neonatal cardiac patients, including pre-operative and post-operative management
- 2 or more years of pediatric cardiac experience in a step-down or cardiology floor setting
- Familiarity with equipment such as Servo U ventilators, Somanetics NIRS machines, GE radiant warmers, and Medfusion/Baxter IV pumps
