Contract (13 weeks, with possible extension) | Days, 3x12 or 4x12 | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays required | 48-hour contract option available with overtime billed after 48 hours — indicate preference at time of submission | Block scheduling cannot be accommodated

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Cardiothoracic ICU setting using a universal bed model, including care for step-down level patients
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and continuous IV sedation; titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data including FloTrac/Vigileo, Pulmonary Artery/Swan-Ganz lines, and dysrhythmias
• Care for post-cardiac surgery patients (including direct OR arrivals), CABG, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, and Impella patients
• Provide ventilator management, ABG interpretation, BiPAP/CPAP assistance, HFNC, and airway suctioning; manage CVVHD/CRRT and IV insulin protocols
• Maintain strict infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE protocols; manage surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a CVICU or CTICU
• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
• Proficiency in Epic EHR — no exceptions
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Must pass an EKG/telemetry test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start; one attempt is given with no remediation available
• Must meet facility fit testing requirements; PAPR cannot be accommodated — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate
• No prior license or background hits will be considered — no exceptions
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Strong neurological nursing experience, including post-brain surgery care, EVD/ventriculostomy management, and CVA/acute stroke management
• Experience with pre/post cardiac cath and intervention procedures
• Familiarity with NIHSS assessment and multi-system organ failure management
