7on/7off Mon-Sun work week Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Medical Imaging Supervisor, accomplishes the Medical Imaging departments strategic objectives by planning and organizing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Assist with radiology functions of a patient care facility, including planning and development of department policy and procedures. Ensure compliance with all applicable tribal, state, federal laws, policies, and regulations. Operate all fixed and portable radiographic systems. Perform duties vital to Diagnostic Radiology and CT services for Outpatient, Inpatient and Emergency Departments. Assure all patient orders, lab work and consent forms are complete in a timely manner. Identify and review each patient?s requisition, either hard copy or in the computer system, for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis. Assess patient condition, ensure patient safety through proper use of table straps and other support devices. Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper film identification on all images. Coordinate exams with other modalities in order to ensure patients are processed through the department as efficiently as possible. Ensure accurate documentation on patients? chart (i.e., patients full name, chart number, date of birth and examinations performed, etc.). Maintain accurate daily patient log documentation. Initiate applicable ?incident reports? in the Meditech Expanse system by end of shift; and report incomplete and incorrect examinations to the incoming shift and to the Medical Imaging Supervisor. Transport patients to other departments as needed. Respond to on call services in a timely manner. Prevent excessive radiation doses to the patient and Sage Memorial staff by utilizing A.L.A.R.A. and adhering to department policies. Assist with quality and safety programs and ensure compliance with hospital accreditation requirements. Participate in development and review program goals and objectives for the Medical Imaging department Assist with reviews on the Radiology?s Quality Assurance program, which complies with The Joint Commission and Arizona State Statues and conforms with NHF/SMH Quality Assurance plan. Maintain cooperative communication with other departments. Communicate with Patient Accounting, when necessary to assure billing is timely and current. Assist with inventory control and maintain equipment assigned to the department. Maintain accurate record on equipment preventive maintenance and quality control as necessary. Maintain all competencies related to radiology and CT as well as maintaining all required professional accreditations. Perform required examination in a timely manner. Utilize sterile techniques preventing cross contamination. Attend regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities. Participate in orientation and trainings to ensure compliance. Coordinate the technology needs of the office; purchase hardware and software; ensure staff is fully trained on systems, policies and procedures. Teach/train x-ray students in positioning, radiation protection, patient care, PACS, EMR and workflow. Assist in teaching and/or cross training x-ray techs in the principles of CT, basic features of the scanner user interface, CT positioning, established scanning protocols, terminology, troubleshooting minor problems with our scanner and its different warmups and tube conditioning routines; reformatting images, the injector and its user interface, CT Angiographic procedures and cleaning and maintaining the scanner (gantry, table, monitors, straps, and injector). Maintain confidentiality at all times Comply with company policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including The Joint Commission Accreditation. Knowledge of company personnel policies and procedures Knowledge of institutional regulations regarding patient care, fire safety, infection control, disaster plans and emergency codes. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of radiographic examinations and records management procedures Knowledge of department equipment and able to identify minor repairs that are needed. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics. Knowledge and understanding of physician?s orders Ability to recognize subtle differences between healthy and pathological areas. Ability to understand and follow diagnostic procedures and documentation protocols. Ability to operate CT and x-ray equipment. Ability to demonstrate cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment as indicated by minimal wastage of supplies. Ability to maintain adequate inventory of all supplies and equipment Ability to gather data information and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing with staff and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way. Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines. Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and seek improvement in results. Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Ability to respond to emergencies and on-call duties in less than 20 minutes. Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint). Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing reports. Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to talk or hear. The employee frequently exposed to blood, bodily fluids/tissues and radiation. The employee occasionally is required to walk, stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office, clinic or hospital setting with exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment and exposure to blood borne pathogens. Exposure to latex products on a routine basis. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts and on call may be required. Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Associates degree or certification preferred in X-ray and CT. Two (2) years progressive work experience in Radiology; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography and Computed Tomography. Arizona Department of Health Services license as a Certified Radiologic Technologist and Computerized Tomography Technologist. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers. Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation.
