The CT Technologist coordinates and performs all computerized tomography procedures while ensuring patient safety, image quality, and adherence to departmental protocols. This role requires expertise in operating advanced diagnostic imaging equipment and providing high-quality patient care. Essential Functions & Responsibilities CT Procedure Setup & Operation Prepares, sets up, and monitors CT equipment for each patient. Positions and transfers patients using safe body mechanics and approved lifting techniques. Applies immobilization devices when necessary. Patient Identification & History Verifies patient identity according to established protocol. Obtains relevant patient history, including allergies and clinical information. Contrast Administration Prepares and administers IV contrast media as required for physician-protocolled exams. Monitors patients for reactions and follows appropriate response procedures. Image Acquisition & Documentation Produces and archives high-quality diagnostic images. Records studies electronically for future reference and ensures accurate digital storage and transfer. Workflow & Scheduling Coordinates the daily patient schedule with support staff to maintain efficient workflow. Image Quality & Equipment Maintenance Ensures image quality meets department standards. Performs daily calibration and quality control checks on equipment. Reports and follows through on equipment malfunctions. Digital Image Management Responsible for electronic/digital image capture, transfer, storage, and duplication. Patient Monitoring & Emergency Response Observes patients for signs of allergic reactions or distress and acts promptly as necessary. Assists in emergency situations, including administering basic CPR. Radiation Safety Compliance Follows state and departmental radiation safety guidelines to protect self and patients. Environment & Supply Management Maintains a clean, organized work area. Ensures adequate supply levels are available. Training & Support Provides instruction and support to new staff members as needed. Assistance in Specialized Procedures Assists Radiologists and physicians with specialized imaging procedures, meeting skill and competency standards. Clinical Documentation Reviews and records relevant patient history and clinical data to support radiologist interpretation. Registry & Compliance Maintains required professional registry and certifications per regulatory bodies. Quality Improvement Participation Engages in departmental and organizational quality improvement initiatives, including goal setting, data collection, evaluation, and implementation of action plans.
