Travel RN – Med-Surg/Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Chandler & Mercy Gilbert Campuses
Trauma Level: Not specified
EMR: Cerner (primary), Allscripts Sunrise (additional float locations)
Position Overview
The Travel RN will float across multiple Med-Surg, Telemetry, PCU, Neuro Tele, and specialty holding areas across two campuses (9 miles apart). Must be able to titrate cardiac drips and interpret EKGs. Depending on skill level, may float to ICU (Med-Surg–appropriate assignments), ER, L&D, and Behavioral Health.
Key Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years MedSurg/Tele or PCU
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS (required), NIHSS (required)
- Shifts: 12 hours (7–7)
- Guarantee: 36 hours/week with no cancellations
- COVID Vaccine: Preferred; religious exemptions considered
- Ages Seen: 15+ years
Compliance Requirements
- Dysrhythmia Exam: Must pass prior to contract signing (2 attempts max; within 48 hrs of offer). Failure = DNU for 6 months.
- SIM Lab (Day 1): Pass/fail. Failure = DNU for 6 months.
FLOATING EXPECTATIONS
- Float between:
- Telemetry (CV Tele, Neuro Tele)
- PCU
- Med-Surg units
- Observation & holding areas (Cath Lab, ER, hallway)
- ER, L&D, Behavioral Health
- ICU (Med-Surg–level patients only)
- Float between Chandler & Mercy Gilbert campuses.
- Notification provided 1.5 hrs before shift.
- May float mid-shift between units.
- Rare but possible to float campuses mid-shift (must clock-out/in between sites).

- No IV team (SWAT nurse available in some units)
- Tele techs, charge nurses, PCTs, HUCs available

- Support: Charge RN, Clinical Supervisor, 1 PCT/16 pts

Neuro Tele – A3
- Beds: 28
- Ratios: 1:3–4
- Certs: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Common Patients: Post-crani, spine, CVA post-tPA
- Notes: No ICP monitoring
- Orientation: 2 days
- Scrubs: Navy
Med-Surg C5 (Ortho/Surgical/Oncology)
- Beds: 32
- Ratios: 1:4 (days & nights)
- Certs: BLS, ACLS
- Common Patients: 80% surgical, 20% oncology; orthopedic + abdominal/urologic surgeries
- Scrubs: Navy
- Orientation: 2 shifts
- Float: B2C & B2D
Med-Surg B2C (Tele Capable)
- Beds: 29
- Ratios: 1:4
- Drips: Amio, Cardizem (titrate down only)
- Tele: GE monitoring
- Common Patients: General MedSurg requiring Tele
- Scrubs: Navy
- Orientation: 2 shifts
Additional FLOAT-SPECIFIC INFO
- Nurse Managers do not take patients but do rounds.
- Patients include adults and occasional pediatrics (1:4 ratio).
- May float to any Med-Surg/Tele unit, PCU, ER, L&D, Behavioral Health, ICU (MS overflow).
