Description
Title: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
Location: Syracuse, NY
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Mixed 4x10-hour shifts; potential schedule variations include 07:00–15:30, 11:00–19:30, 15:00–23:30, 07:00–19:30, and 11:00–23:30 (every two weeks)
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform scrub duties for a wide range of surgical procedures including trauma, orthopedic, general, ENT, vascular, neurosurgery, gynecology, bariatric, and GU cases.
- Prepare and maintain sterile environments for all surgical procedures, ensuring strict adherence to aseptic technique.
- Assist surgeons and operating room staff during complex and emergent procedures, particularly in a Level I trauma environment.
- Set up surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, including robotics and laparoscopic systems.
- Support ENT procedures such as tracheostomy, mastoidectomy, laryngoscopy, endoscopic sinus procedures, neck dissection, and more.
- Assist with general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, mastectomy, colon resections (open and laparoscopic), liver resections, Whipple procedures, and thyroidectomy.
- Provide technical support for orthopedic procedures including arthroscopy, ACL repair, joint replacements, fracture reductions, spinal fusion, and laminectomy/discectomy.
- Support gynecologic procedures including hysterectomy (open and laparoscopic), C-sections, tubal ligations, D&C, cervical cerclage, and pelvic repairs.
- Operate and assist with robotic surgical platforms in gynecologic, orthopedic, and neurologic cases.
- Collaborate with surgeons, RNs, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams in a teaching hospital environment.
- Maintain readiness for trauma cases and emergent add-on procedures.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of recent operating room experience (within the last 4 years) in an acute care, Level I or II trauma center or large teaching hospital.
- Comprehensive scrub experience across multiple specialties including trauma, ortho, general, ENT, vascular, GYN, GU, neuro, and robotics.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment with varied shift lengths.
- Experience in both open and laparoscopic procedures.
- EPIC charting experience (preferred).
- Must be able to float as needed and adapt to changing case assignments.
- First-time travelers accepted only with large-facility experience.
Required Certifications & Licenses:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
- NBSTSA certification
- BLS certification
- Active state-appropriate professional license/certification as required for CST roles
