Job-Specific Duties / Competencies
- Perform a full nursing assessment on all patients within 8 hours of admission
- Develop individualized plans of care and identify teaching goals
- Provide patient status updates for initial and weekly team conferences
- Ensure accurate, timely medical record documentation
- Deliver direct patient care using the nursing process (assess, plan, implement, evaluate)
- Educate patients/families to support rehabilitation goals
- Begin discharge planning from day of admission
- Communicate changes in patient status to physicians and charge nurses
- Seek guidance for complex clinical decisions
- Supervise and delegate appropriately to LPNs, CNAs, and other support personnel
- Ensure personal and environmental safety
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused unit environment
- Communicate unit needs (supplies, equipment, repairs, training) to leadership
- Provide cost-effective care and monitor supply usage
- Assume charge nurse duties after orientation
- Pursue professional development and continuing education
- Prioritize tasks effectively to meet patient needs
- Perform additional duties as assigned
