Description

 

Primary Duties 

 

• Provide direct patient care in accordance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and physician orders. 

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately in the EMR. 

• Support clinic/provider workflow, including rooming patients, coordinating tests, and preparing patients for procedures or exams. 

• Assist with coordinating and posting surgical cases, including collecting necessary documentation, confirming orders, communicating with OR scheduling teams, and ensuring completeness and accuracy of submissions. 

• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. 

• Support triage functions, including responding to patient calls, MyChart messages, and urgent care needs per protocol. 

• Maintain compliance with safety regulations, infection control standards, and documentation requirements. 

• Provide coverage as needed to support staffing gaps, high patient volumes, or specialized patient needs.

 

 Required Skills & Competencies 

 

• Strong clinical assessment skills and sound nursing judgment. 

• Proficiency in EMR documentation (Epic preferred). 

 

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, surgeons, and OR teams.

 

 • Ability to support surgical case coordination, including understanding required documentation, orders, and workflow steps for case posting. 

 

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive tasks. • Problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate concerns appropriately. 

 

• Flexibility and adaptability to support multiple providers as needed. 

 

Education Required: • Bachelor's Degree in nursing Or Associates Degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement Or Technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement Or must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN. 

 

• Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required. 

 

• Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact

 

 • BLS certification from the American Heart Association required

 

 • 9 months of professional nursing experience required Preferred: 

 

• Specialty certifications (BLS required; PALS/ACLS or specialty credentials preferred depending on unit). 

 

Experience Preferred: • Experience in neuroscience specialties, neurosurgery, or surgical clinic environments. • Experience with surgical case posting or OR scheduling workflows. • Pediatrics experience. • Triage or care coordination experience.
