Description
8-430 Monday through Friday. 2 weekends per contract
• General Information
• Minimum Experience: 1.5 years general nursing (system requirement)
• Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only if greater than 2 years of experience
• Travelers must live >100 miles away from any facility
• Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
• Hours: 0800-1630
• Patient Types:
• Case Managers provide care for patients in all the acute care departments
• The RN Case Manager will most likely remain in the same area during their contract, pending new hires. Typically, travelers are not required to float to multiple areas during their contract.
• Patient Ratios:
• 1 CM to 16-20 patients
• Required Certifications:
• BLS
• Education Required:
• Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
• Skills required:
• Previous discharge planning and Acute Care Case Management experience, progression of care, experience meeting with families and discussing plans of care.
• Support on the Unit:
• Case Management Assistants
• Lead Case Managers
• Social Work - Complex Psychosocial patient consultants
• Utilization Review RNs
• Hospitalist
• Charting System:
• EPIC (required)
• Orientation: (facility and unit)
• 1.5 weeks
• EPIC Class
• Scheduling:
• Weekend rotation: 2 weekends per 13-week assignment
• Typical staffing support during the weekend shifts:
• 3 RN Case Managers, 1 Social Worker, 1 Lead Case Manager, 1 Case Manager assistant and 1 Utilization Review Nurse.
• Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
• Holiday Expectations: 2/4 major holidays
• Approval of time off? up to 7 days, must extend for any full week off, no RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 2-3 weeks in August of every year)
