Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Shift: 4x12 hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 for MedSurg patients
• Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
• First Time Traveler: Accepted
• Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)

Required Skills & Experience

• NY Registered Nurse license must be in hand before start - no exceptions
• EPIC charting experience required
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including:

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills (peripheral line care/management)
• Respiratory care skills including:

  • Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions

Facility & Unit Information

• Acute Stroke Unit: 39-bed combined unit specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders, as well as acute medical patients
• Unit uses an adjustable acuity delivery care model focused on evidence-based stroke care

Required Background & Compliance Checks

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
• Education verification from primary source
• Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Employment verification (minimum 2 past employments)
• References (2 within last 3 years) required for some candidates
• Skills checklist annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• TB questionnaire annually (in lieu of annual TB test)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• This is a travel/contract position at a tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white

Summary of Required Qualifications

• Valid New York RN license in hand
• Minimum 1 year MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience
• ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Certification
• EPIC charting experience
• Ability to manage patient ratios of 1:5 to 1:7
• Compliance with all background, health, and immunization requirements prior to start

This position is ideal for RNs with MedSurg/Telemetry experience looking for a night shift travel contract in a specialized acute stroke and neurological care unit.
