Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Pocatello, Idaho

Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour nights
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Float: Yes, with competencies
  • Number of Beds: 48
  • Patient Diagnoses:
    Sepsis, CIWA, Confusion, AMS, COPD, Post-op care, AKI, Trauma, Respiratory failure, Bowel obstruction, Pyelonephritis, Cardiac conditions, Diabetes, GI conditions, Isolation, Suicidal ideation with medical indications

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred (will accept 1 year)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred (not required)

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Charting System: Epic (experience required)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • RN License in Idaho
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 12 months of hire
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable): PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, CPI, Management of Assaultive Behavior, NIH Stroke Certification

Essential Job Functions

  • Apply the Nursing Process for all age groups: Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics
  • Thorough documentation following regulatory and hospital requirements
  • Maintain clinical competencies and professional development
  • Work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work in a busy, stressful environment adapting to patient safety requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good judgment, patience, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic medical records
  • Creativity, problem analysis, teamwork, and decision-making skills

Compliance & Requirements

  • Must live at least 100 miles from the facility (100-mile radius rule)
  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or approved exemption
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Additional Notes

  • Must complete unit-specific skills checklist annually
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • References are not required for clearance but may be requested internally
  • Orientation and competency exams required as applicable
