  • Telemetry Unit – WC Surgical/Neuro, 4th Floor
  • Cost Center: 617010
  • Number of Beds: 48 (two units: 4A and 4B)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:5

Required Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses:

  • COVID-19, respiratory, GI, diabetic patients
  • Telemetry patients (TIA, CVA)
  • General, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients

Experience / Must-Have Skills:

  • Ability to read basic telemetry strips
  • Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA patients
  • Cerner experience recommended (only one day of orientation)

IV Drip Requirements:

  • RNs not required to titrate drips
  • Common set-rate drips: Diltiazem

Telemetry / Monitor Techs:

  • Telemetry monitored remotely; tele techs located on 3rd floor
  • Monitor techs read and post strips
  • RNs required to interpret strips and sign at least once per shift

Charge Nurse / House Supervisor:

  • Both present
  • Charge nurse does not take patient assignment

Support Staff / Nurse Aides:

  • Yes, 1:10–15 ratio

Respiratory Equipment:

  • BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and some breathing treatments

Scheduling & Orientation

Shifts:

  • 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Schedules published 4 weeks in advance
  • Self-scheduling allowed but finalized by manager

Weekend Requirement:

  • 2 weekends per 4-week schedule

Holiday Requirement:

  • Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving: work 2 days & 1 evening or 2 evenings & 1 day (e.g., Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day)

Call / Standby Requirement:

  • None

Floating Requirements:

  • May float to East Campus and PCU if qualified

Scrub Color / Dress Code:

  • Navy blue scrubs

Unit/Department Specific Orientation:

  • 1 shift of unit orientation
