Job Overview

This is a 13-week crisis contract opportunity for an experienced Paramedic supporting a Level III Trauma Emergency Department in a rural hospital setting. The team is close-knit and fast-paced, caring for a full spectrum of patients from neonates to geriatrics. Paramedics function both on the ambulance service and within the Emergency Department based on operational needs.

• Hours: 36 hours per week

• Setting: Emergency Department / Ambulance Service

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency medical care to patients across all age groups in a Level III Trauma setting
• Function in both ambulance services and Emergency Department coverage as needed
• Deliver high-quality patient care during day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts
• Collaborate with nursing, providers, respiratory therapy, and support staff
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EPIC
• Follow all hospital safety, clinical, and emergency protocols

Emergency Department Details

• ED Beds: 17
• Patient Population: Neonate to geriatrics; all patient types, Level III trauma
• Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 1:3–4
  • Nights: 1:5
• No Floating

Schedule & Shift Information

• Rotating shifts totaling 36 hours per week
• Primary coverage needs:
  • 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM
  • 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Weekend rotation every other weekend, as needed
• Holiday coverage as required
• Possible call-back depending on department needs

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Paramedic experience
• First-time travelers considered on a case-by-case basis
• Ability to work independently in high-acuity emergency situations

Certifications & Licensure

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• Wisconsin Paramedic License
• Michigan license not required at submission, but must be in process per department leadership
• COVID vaccination required

Technology & Equipment

• EPIC EMR
• Alaris IV pumps
• Pyxis medication dispensing
• Bedside and nurse station telemetry monitoring

Unit Support

• CNA ratio: 1:17
• Charge nurse carries patient assignment on night shift
• Phlebotomy and RN blood draws
• Resource Nurse available
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage: 24/7

Orientation & Logistics

• Minimum of one unit-based orientation shift
• Scrub color: Any color
• On-site parking available
