This is a 13-week crisis contract opportunity for a Registered Respiratory Therapist supporting a hospital-based Respiratory Therapy department serving both critical and non-critical patient populations. The role focuses on comprehensive respiratory care across the lifespan, utilizing evidence-based practice, strong clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Dates: March 2, 2026 – May 30, 2026
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (17:00–05:30)

Responsibilities

• Assess patients using pulmonary diagnostics, chest imaging, hemodynamic data, laboratory values, blood gases, and electrolytes
• Operate and manage specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care areas
• Assist physicians with bedside and procedural respiratory support
• Administer respiratory medications and therapies per physician orders and established protocols
• Clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper function of respiratory equipment
• Educate patients on therapy purpose, proper technique, disease management, and self-care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, high-quality patient care
• Provide accurate patient handoffs and maintain effective communication
• Promote a culture of safety and report patient safety events and near misses
• Support onboarding and education of orientees, students, and new team members
• Deliver age-appropriate care across the lifespan

Licensure & Certifications

• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the state of Wisconsin
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by NBRC
  • CRT accepted if credential was obtained prior to January 1, 2023
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program
• Minimum of an associate degree

Experience Requirements

• No prior experience required

Schedule & Rotation

• Night shift: 17:00–05:30
• Weekend rotation: Every 4th weekend
• Holiday rotation as scheduled
• No on-call requirements
• No floating

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs (floor to waist and knee to waist)
• Lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height
• Lift up to 20 lbs overhead
• Push or pull up to 30 lbs of force over distances
• Perform stand-pivot and sliding transfers
• Utilize safe body mechanics at all times
