Description

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a high-acuity mixed ICU setting. This role supports a large adult intensive care unit caring for complex medical, surgical, cardiac, trauma, and neuro patients.

This is a 48-hour guaranteed contract and requires strong critical care experience, independence, and comfort managing high-acuity patients in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule

4x12 Hour Day Shift
7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
48 hours guaranteed weekly (non-negotiable)
14-week assignment

Unit Details

39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU pods)
RN ratios: 1:1, 1:2 (1:3 rare, acuity dependent)
Adult critical care population
24/7 Intensivist and Respiratory support
Charting: EPIC (required experience)
Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter)
Omnicell medication system

Patient Population

Complex ICU patients including:

ARDS
MI
CVA/TIA
COVID
Post-cardiac cath
Post-surgical
Multi-system trauma

Cardiac experience preferred. CABG/TAVR 24–48 hour post-op experience strongly preferred (not required).

Required Experience

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel preferred)
At least one prior travel assignment required
Experience with high-acuity adult ICU patients
Experience with vasopressors, sedation, paralytics
Hemodynamic lines
Ventilator management
Proning
Telemetry interpretation
Strong critical thinking and team collaboration

Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred.

Certifications Required

Active RN License (South Dakota or Compact)
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
TNCC (must obtain prior to arrival if not currently held)

Floating

Not common unless overstaffed
May float to adult Med-Surg/Tele units (1:4 ratio)
ICU RNs may float to ED
PCU RNs may float to ICU

Additional Details

No first-time travelers
Must live 100+ miles from facility
No RTO during holidays
Up to 7 days RTO allowed (must extend contract to accommodate)
May precept students
Navy scrubs
Free parking

Strong adult ICU experience required. EPIC experience required. 48-hour contract is mandatory. Must have prior travel experience and be comfortable with high-acuity trauma and mixed ICU population. TNCC required prior to start.
