Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Rapid City, South Dakota
13-Week Travel Contract | 4x12 Days | 48 Hours Guaranteed

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity, mixed medical-surgical critical care environment. This is a 48-hour contract and is not negotiable — candidates must be comfortable working 4x12s weekly.

The unit includes MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU patient populations within a 39-bed ICU divided into pods. This role requires strong clinical judgment and comfort managing complex, critically ill adult patients.

Minimum one prior travel assignment required. First-time travelers will not be considered.

Schedule

  • 4x12 Hour Day Shift
  • 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • 48 hours guaranteed weekly
  • 13-week assignment
  • Every other weekend (not guaranteed)
  • No call required

Patient Population

  • Medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma ICU
  • ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID
  • Post-cardiac cath
  • Post-surgical patients
  • Multi-system trauma (heavy trauma population)

Cardiac experience preferred (CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op).
Fresh open hearts assigned only if experienced and appropriate.

Ratios

  • 1:1
  • 1:2
  • 1:3 (rare; acuity dependent)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience (excluding travel experience preferred)
  • Experience with:
    • Vasopressors, sedation, paralytics
    • Hemodynamic monitoring
    • Proning
    • Ventilator management
    • Telemetry
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, high-acuity setting
  • Epic experience required

Strongly Preferred:
Impella, IABP, CRRT experience

Floating

  • Not common unless overstaffed
  • May float to adult med/surg or telemetry (1:4 ratio)
  • ICU RNs may float to ED if qualified
  • PCU RNs may float to ICU if qualified

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC (must obtain prior to start if not currently held)

Additional Details

  • Must live 100+ miles from facility
  • No RTO during holidays
  • Up to 7 days RTO allowed (must extend contract to accommodate)
  • May be expected to precept students
  • Navy scrubs
  • Free parking
ICU RN – 4x12 Days | 48 hrs/week (required). 2+ yrs ICU experience required (excluding travel preferred). Epic required. BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC required. Mixed MICU/SICU/CICU/TICU. Impella, IABP, CRRT preferred. 100+ mile radius required. No first-time travelers.
