Description
Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – NICU
Location: Glendive, MT
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day – 3x12 Hour (07:00 AM – 07:00 PM)
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide respiratory therapy care for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in various care settings including adult critical care, emergency department, and pediatrics.
- Manage and monitor respiratory therapy treatments and ventilatory support for critically ill patients.
- Perform airway management procedures including intubation assist, extubation, nasal airway placement, oral airway placement, and suctioning (ETT and nasotracheal).
- Provide tracheostomy care and management including suctioning and maintenance of tracheostomy devices.
- Assist in high-risk neonatal deliveries and provide respiratory support for neonates.
- Perform and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and capillary blood gases.
- Administer respiratory medications via multiple delivery systems including nebulizers, metered-dose inhalers (MDI), aerosol masks, trach collars, and T-piece systems.
- Deliver oxygen therapy through devices such as bag and mask, ET tubes, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), oxygen tanks, trach collars, and T-piece systems.
- Perform ventilator management including CPAP, BiPAP, flow-by ventilation, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Perform pulmonary hygiene therapies including sputum specimen collection and airway suctioning.
- Support patient transport between departments and during ambulance transfers while managing respiratory support equipment.
- Perform pulmonary function testing including spirometry, exhaled breath testing, bronchial provocation testing, and stress test administration when required.
- Administer respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Bicarbonate, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled steroids, Mucomyst, Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, Theophylline, Tobramycin, and Xopenex.
- Provide care for patients with respiratory conditions including pneumonia, COVID, aspiration, fresh tracheostomy, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, respiratory distress syndrome, transient tachypnea of the newborn, near drowning, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
- Monitor neonatal and pediatric patients using equipment such as apnea monitors, CPAP/BiPAP systems, and perform neonatal transports and umbilical blood gas analysis.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory services, physical therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams, phlebotomy, and transportation services.
- Document treatments, procedures, and patient care in the Cerner charting system.
- May float within scope to meet facility needs, including potential assignments at an affiliated long-term care facility.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Pediatrics experience required.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
- State respiratory therapy license required (pending license accepted with adjusted start date).
- Trauma Level I and Trauma Level II experience required.
- Community hospital experience required.
- Experience performing arterial blood gas draws and interpretation, airway management, ventilator management, and respiratory medication administration.
- Ability to work with neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Pediatric critical care experience.
- Pulmonary rehabilitation experience.
- Pulmonary function testing laboratory experience.
- LTAC (Long-Term Acute Care) experience.
- Cerner charting experience preferred.
