RN – Inpatient Medical-Psychiatric (Blake 11)
Location: Boston, MA
Contract Duration: 8 or 13 Weeks (Available Starts: 03/15, 03/29, 04/12)
Shift: 3x12-Hour Rotating (Days/Evenings/Nights) | 36 Hours Guaranteed
Job Summary
Top-ranked teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is seeking three specialized RNs for the Blake 11 Psychiatric Unit. This is not a traditional standalone psychiatric floor; Blake 11 is a 24-bed Medical-Psychiatric unit. You will treat high-acuity patients who have acute psychiatric diagnoses complicated by active medical conditions (e.g., post-operative recovery, acute infections, or chronic disease management). This role requires a unique "hybrid" skillset of behavioral health expertise and medical-surgical proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Dual-Acuity Nursing: Provide comprehensive care for patients with co-occurring psychiatric and medical disorders, managing everything from suicidal ideation to IV antibiotics and wound care.
- Psychiatric Stabilization: Conduct risk assessments, manage therapeutic boundaries, and utilize de-escalation techniques within a high-acuity urban setting.
- Medical Interventions: Maintain competencies in IV therapy and phlebotomy (preferred) to manage the physical health needs of the patient population.
- Interdisciplinary Leadership: Collaborate with a world-class team of psychiatrists, internists, and social workers to manage complex social and clinical discharges.
- Milieu Safety: Maintain a safe environment while adhering to the rigorous safety standards required for a combined med-psych population.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: * Minimum 1 year of general nursing experience required.
- Psychiatric experience (any amount) is highly preferred.
- Medical-Surgical experience (any amount) is highly preferred.
- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in IV insertion and phlebotomy is preferred to support the medical side of the unit.
- Licensure: Active Massachusetts State RN License.
- Certifications: Current AHA BLS required.
- Availability: Must be able to work a rotating schedule; 50% of shifts will be evenings or nights.
