Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Employment Type: Clinical
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU provides direct patient care under supervision, implementing the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The RN collaborates with the care team to ensure quality patient care and is responsible for documentation, communication, and coordination of services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate nursing care based on patient assessment and growth/development principles.
- Maintain thorough, timely documentation and communicate patient information effectively to healthcare team members.
- Assist in coordinating services with medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Respond promptly and effectively during emergency situations.
- Maintain clinical skills and competencies relevant to the ICU setting.
- Perform technical nursing skills including medication administration, IV starts, Foley catheter insertion and maintenance, venipuncture, blood product administration, restraint application, sterile dressing changes, and care of patients with lines (intracranial, central, arterial, peripheral), ventilators, and tracheostomies.
- Troubleshoot and operate ICU equipment such as wound vacuum systems, monitoring devices, and dialysis equipment.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans and educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatments, and medications.
- Use critical thinking and professional judgment to respond to clinical changes and prevent complications in patients requiring cardiac monitoring, stroke care, medical-surgical, and trauma care.
- Adhere to organizational values including customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
