This job description is for a Registered Nurse (RN) working in an Obstetrics (OB) Unit in a hospital. Here is a simple explanation of what it means:

1. Main Role

The nurse will provide complete care to mothers and babies in the OB department using the nursing process:

• Assess patients
• Plan care
• Implement treatment
• Evaluate patient outcomes

The nurse works independently but under the supervision of a charge nurse.

2. Patient Care Areas

The RN will care for patients in different OB stages:

• Antepartum – care during pregnancy before labor
• Intrapartum – care during labor and delivery
• Postpartum – care after childbirth
• Nursery – care for newborn babies
• Post-operative gynecology patients – women recovering from gynecological surgery

3. Responsibilities

The nurse must:

• Perform clinical nursing procedures
• Monitor patient health and respond to changes
• Teach patients and families about care
• Maintain medical equipment and supplies
• Work closely with doctors and hospital staff
• Follow hospital policies and nursing standards
• Maintain patient confidentiality

4. Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
• Minimum 1 year acute care experience as RN

5. Required Certifications

The nurse must have these certifications:

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
• STABLE certification (newborn stabilization program)

• Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 according to state rules.
