Registered Nurse - MedSurg Tele (Virginia, Chesapeake)
Job Details
- Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
- Shift: Days (3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts; OT after 48 hours)
- Patient Ratio: 1:7
- Unit: Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS/Tele)
- Schedule Includes: Nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, holidays within contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with neurology and stroke patients
- Travel nursing experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance & Background
- Zero tolerance for any license or background issues; candidates must have clean background checks
- 7-year criminal background check required, updated within 1 year of start
- Various federal and state background screenings required (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Fingerprinting required (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) to be completed within the first week of contract start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
Required Documentation & Testing
- Proof of 2 professional references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
- Pass/fail EKG/medication competency testing at orientation (must score 80% or higher)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness test (100% passing score required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year of start (facility does not allow PAPR)
- Immunizations and titers within 10 years or documented declinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB must be updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (or approved medical/religious exemption with mask-wearing)
- COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available
Additional Notes
- Candidates must submit a passport-style photo meeting specific requirements before start
- Must complete facility-specific acknowledgment forms and safety manuals
- Candidates must include a current NURSYS report and Qualivis cover sheet with all required Return to Office (RTO) documentation
- Candidates must be pre-closed on patient ratio before submission
