🏥 Job Summary – L&D / Mother Baby (Birthing Center)

⚠️ Important Notes

  • No first-time travelers

  • Must submit 2 years of references with profile

     

🛏️ Unit Overview

  • Total Beds: 34
  • L&D Beds: Included in total
  • OR Suites (C-Section): 2
  • Triage Beds: 2
  • Postpartum Beds: 14
  • Birth Volume:
    • 150–180/month
    • ~2,133/year

👩‍⚕️ Patient Population

  • 33+ weeks gestation
  • High-risk cases including:
    • Preeclampsia
    • Diabetes
    • Psych/Social issues
    • Substance exposure cases

📋 Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years experience (1 year accepted if multiple travel assignments)
  • Must have LDRP experience
  • Comfortable with:
    • Independent deliveries
    • Circulating C-sections
    • Assisting with deliveries (catching baby)
    • Newborn transition care
  • Must work L&D + Postpartum

💉 Certifications Required

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • Preferred: Intermediate/Advanced FHM

⚖️ Ratios (AWHONN Guidelines)

  • L&D: 1:2
  • Mother/Baby: 1:3–4 couplets

💊 Drips & Skills

  • Must titrate:
    • Magnesium
    • Pitocin
    • Insulin

👥 Support Staff

  • Free Charge Nurse (both shifts)
  • 1 Surgical Tech (24/7)
  • Patient Care Assistant (each shift)

🏥 Coverage

  • OBGYN/Hospitalist: 24/7
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner: 24/7
  • Anesthesia (OB): 24/7

🫁 Equipment

  • RT support available (CPAP, BiPAP, vents)
  • EFM System: Centricity Perinatal
  • RNs read their own strips

🗓️ Scheduling

  • Shifts: 12-hour
  • Block scheduling: Available (if requested)
  • Weekend: Every other
    • Days: Sat & Sun
    • Nights: Fri & Sat
  • Holidays: Rotational

⏱️ Call / Standby

  • Possible standby
  • Response time: 45 minutes
