Job Description – RN Cath Lab / Cardio Prep & Recovery

Client: Summa Health
Facility: Akron Campus – Cardiology Prep & Recovery
Location: Akron, Ohio
Position: RN – Cath Lab / Cardio Prep & Recovery
Shift: 4x10s | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Schedule Note: One late evening shift per week
 

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for Cardio Prep & Recovery / Cath Lab at Summa Health – Akron Campus.

The RN will provide pre- and post-procedure nursing care for patients undergoing:

  • Diagnostic cardiac procedures
  • Interventional cardiac procedures
  • Peripheral vascular procedures
  • Electrophysiology (EP) procedures
  • Non-invasive cardiac procedures

The nurse will be responsible for patient assessment, monitoring, recovery, education, and documentation, ensuring safe care throughout Phase II recovery.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-op and post-op nursing care for Cath Lab and EP patients
  • Monitor patients recovering from:
    • Heart catheterization
    • Cardiac interventions
    • Peripheral vascular procedures
    • Electrophysiology procedures
  • Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation
  • Assess and document patient condition before and after procedures
  • Deliver patient and family education related to:
    • Cardiac disease
    • Procedure recovery
    • Discharge instructions
    • Medication teaching
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
  • Respond quickly to changes in patient condition
  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and safety standards

Required Qualifications

Education

  • BSN preferred
  • Associate Degree in Nursing accepted
  • Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program

Licensure

  • Active Ohio RN License
  • Must be eligible for practice in Ohio

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • Strong experience with:
    • Cath Lab patients
    • Post heart cath recovery
    • Cardiac prep/recovery
    • PCU / ICU background strongly preferred
  • Experience with EP and non-invasive cardiac patients preferred

Certifications

  • BLS – Required
  • ACLS – Required

Preferred Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Recent Cath Lab, ICU, PCU, Telemetry, or Cardiac Stepdown experience
  • Strong post-procedure monitoring skills
  • Experience with Phase II recovery
  • Excellent patient communication and education skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced cardiac unit
  • Strong clinical judgment and emergency response skills
