UNIT: SURGICAL MANAGER LEADERSHIP OR 

Certs Required: BSN or above required, BLS, ACLS. (PALS preferred)

Experience Required: 3 years of OR Manager/Director, would prefer 5 or more. Experience supporting above case types in the OR.

Supporting all staff in needs (ensuring equipment is available, etc.), running monthly team meetings, running morning huddle, attending bed meetings, comfortable handling budget, making staff schedule and call schedule for all departments (scheduler will make surgery schedule), overseeing time and attendance, keeping up to date with HRP portal for complaints/investigations/etc., participating in value analysis, managing monthly performance improvement projects and PIPS, meeting with infection control for SPD. 

Could be expected to step into cases to assist (not routine)

Soft skills: must be comfortable being firm and holding staff accountable, professional, empathetic, confidential, good time management, working collaboratively with off-site clinics and facilities to schedule cases and to see if it’s possible to schedule certain cases. 

First time traveler: yes but would prefer travel exp.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

Adults and peds, but minimal peds

General surgeries (open and laparoscopic) – bowel, gallbladder, appendix, hernias, portacath, fistulas

Urology – laser lithotripsy, nephroureteral stent insertion/removal, vasectomies, TURPs

ENT – T&As, endoscopic sinus, facial lesions, thyroids, nick dissection

OBGYN – C-sections, tubal ligations, D&Cs, D&Es, hysteroscopies, hysterectomies, uterine ablations

Ortho – Total joints (knees and hips, only a few shoulders), fractures, wrists, ankles, ACL repairs, fingers, carpal tunnel, rods (bipolar and nailings); podiatry (can be trained)

Endoscopies – EGDs and colonoscopies (experience not required)

Sterile processing department.
