Schedule: 12-hour Day Shifts | 3 shifts/week | 36 hours/week
Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, with potential for extension
Position Overview
OU Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This is a full-time assignment requiring a compassionate, skilled nurse with Level 1 trauma experience who can float and cover on-call responsibilities in the PACU.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery under general supervision
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients and ensure safe, high-quality care
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and physician orders
- Assist physicians with examinations, minor diagnostic procedures, and treatments
- Obtain and monitor physiological data; intervene as needed
- Administer medications, regulate IV infusions, and manage blood products
- Communicate care plans to patients and families, and provide discharge education
- Delegate tasks appropriately to support staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education:
- Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience, preferably in trauma or pediatric PACU
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
- Ability to organize, plan, and evaluate nursing services
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients
- Basic computer skills
Licenses & Certifications:
- Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or multistate compact license (eNLC)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – American Heart Association
Schedule & Assignment Details
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (3 shifts/week)
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- Float & Call Coverage: Must be able to float and cover on-call shifts in PACU
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 trauma experience required
