Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse specializing in Behavioral Health to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in psychiatric nursing, with expertise in managing patients with mental health conditions across diverse settings. This role offers an opportunity to provide comprehensive patient care, support recovery, and promote mental wellness within a multidisciplinary environment. The RN - Behavioral Psych will be instrumental in delivering high-quality nursing services, ensuring patient safety, and fostering a supportive atmosphere for individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges.
Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status examinations, and behavioral observations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including psychotropic medications and injections, adhering to prescribed protocols and safety standards.
- Monitor patients for signs of agitation, acute distress, or adverse reactions, implementing de-escalation techniques as necessary.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, and case managers to develop and modify treatment plans aligned with patients' needs.
- Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, medication management, and coping strategies.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in crisis intervention and triage procedures for individuals experiencing acute behavioral episodes or emergencies.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care, community resources, and outpatient services for sustained recovery.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Proven experience in behavioral health nursing, including working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Familiarity with psychiatric medications administration, including injections and IV infusions.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and de-escalation techniques for managing acute agitation or aggression.
- Experience working within inpatient psychiatric units or crisis stabilization settings is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with medical documentation standards is essential.
- Strong understanding of mental health disorders, pharmacology related to psychotropic medications, and safety protocols.
