Duration: Base Year + 1 Optional Year
Start: 6–8 Weeks (Credentialing Required)
Positions: 15 FTEs (Part of 45 Total RN Openings)
Work Setting: Inpatient Medical-Surgical Unit

Job Summary

We are seeking skilled Med-Surg Registered Nurses (RNs) to support the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center during the implementation of the new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. These nurses will provide high-quality, direct patient care to veterans in an inpatient setting, ensuring continuity of care before, during, and after the EHR transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in a Medical-Surgical unit
• Assess patient conditions, develop and implement care plans, and monitor progress
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
• Monitor vital signs and respond to changes in patient condition
• Document patient care accurately in the EHR system
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and discharge instructions
• Maintain compliance with VA policies, HIPAA, and regulatory standards
• Support smooth transition during EHR system implementation

Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)
• Active RN license (Ohio or Compact State - NLC)
• Minimum 2+ years of recent Med-Surg or acute care experience (within last 3 years)
• Current BLS certification (AHA required)
• Strong clinical, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced inpatient environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior VA or federal healthcare experience
• Experience with Telemetry or Cardiac Monitoring
• Familiarity with EHR systems
• Specialty certifications (preferred but not required)
