Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medicine Specialty / Ortho-Trauma Unit
Location: OU Medical Center, 700 NE 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104
Facility: OU Health
Assignment Type: Short-Term Contract (Traveler)
Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, with potential for extension
Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week (3 shifts per week)
Job Overview
OU Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality nursing care in the Ortho-Trauma Unit. This role involves caring for patients with a range of health conditions, from simple to complex, including orthopedic injuries, trauma cases, and medical-surgical conditions.
The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety, monitor clinical status, and implement appropriate interventions while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients in the Ortho-Trauma Unit.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments; note all changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians with examinations, minor procedures, and treatments.
- Monitor and assess physiological data; recognize changes in patient status and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, initiate and regulate IV infusions, and manage blood products.
- Communicate care plans with patients and families; provide education and discharge instructions.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff as appropriate.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
- Experience in medicine specialty, orthopedic, or trauma care preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
- Required:
- Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a multistate compact RN License (eNLC)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
- Strong organizational and clinical decision-making skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to respond to cultural and language needs of patients and families
- Basic computer proficiency
