Manitowoc - Surg Room

About Facility
o Two River, WI
o Level IV Trauma Center
o Primary Stroke Center
o Beds: 69
o Covid vaccine required
General Information
o Beds: 4 OR's , 1 procedure room, 2 GI suites
§ Runs 4 rooms M-F
o Experience: 2 years with acute setting experience
o First Time Traveler: Yes, only with 3 or more years of OR experience
o Average 16 surgical cases/day and 10 GI cases/day
Patient Types:
o Inpatient/Same Day Surgery
o Strong Ortho skills required (50% of surgeries)
o General surgery, podiatry, OB GYN, Ophthalmology, urology, peds dental/ENT, ENT, pain injections
o GI/Endo (EGD, colonoscopies)
▪ Anesthesia does IV sedation for Endo
o Simple single neuro spine (cervical, laminectomy, fusions)
o No Craniotomy, transplant, hearts
o Do not need peds experience
Covid & PPE:
o Patients are tested 72h prior to surgery
o Urgent/Emergent cases will be test with rapid testing
o Rarely have COVID positive patients (OR will not have to recover patient)
o N95s
o PAPRs
Patient Ratios:
o 1:1
Required Certifications:
o RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS (preferred)
o CST: BLS, CST certification
Skills required
o RN: circulate all the cases listed, basic OR skill set (set up equipment for cases above), transport patients; scrub experience (preferred)
o CST: scrub, basic OR skill set
o OB experience required for on-call
o GI/Endo experience preferred
· Support on the Unit:
o Anesthesiologist-any sedation questions
o Charge RN- coordinates the flow
o Scheduler- answers phone
o OR Supervisor
o Director of Surgical Services
o OR Nurse Manager
o OR Educator
Charting System/Equipment:
o EPIC
o Alaris
o Pyxis
Floating:
o Traveler will float to inpatient as helping hands, will only work within their scope
· Orientation:
o Will meet with OR Educator and Manager
o Unit orientation will be based on experience and needs of the department
Scheduling:
o No self -scheduling
o Shift times:
§ 0600-1430
§ 0700-1530
§ 0900-1730
o Monday/Tuesday are early days due to long ortho cases
o Weekend rotation: On call only
o RTO: CIS approve up to 7 days
o On call:
§ 3-4 days/month (M-Thurs)
§ 1500-0700
§ Weekends every 6 weeks (Fri-Mon)
§ Fri 1500-Mon 0700
§ Response Time: 30 mins
§ No sleep room
§ Must be within 30 mins away from the hospital (cannot be late)
§ Able to be on call after normal shift
§ If traveler picks up call and is scheduled to work the next day, they must be expected to show up on time to the scheduled shift
§ On call includes OB and Trauma
o Holiday Expectations: 1 per year (on call only)
