Unit Overview:

This is a 13-bed adult acute care Med-Surg unit that manages a wide variety of medical and surgical patients, including direct admissions from the ED, post-procedure patients, and transfers from other inpatient units.

  • Clinical track unit with diverse diagnoses 

 

Shift Details:

  • 3x12 Hour Rotating Shifts
    • Days: 07:00 AM – 07:30 PM
    • Nights: 07:00 PM – 07:30 AM
  • Every other weekend is required (EOW)
  • Holiday rotation required
  • Schedule dependent on unit needs 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive Med-Surg nursing care for adult and geriatric patients
  • Manage telemetry monitoring and respond to cardiac changes
  • Administer medications including insulin, heparin, and PCA therapy
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and wound vac management
  • Manage IV therapy, central lines, PICC lines, and ports
  • Assist with respiratory support including oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, and suctioning
  • Provide care for patients with surgical drains, ostomies, and feeding tubes
  • Monitor post-hemodialysis and renal failure patients
  • Respond to rapid response and code situations as needed 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of Med-Surg experience required
  • Strong independent clinical practice required (new unit environment)
  • Ability to float within scope as needed
  • Must be comfortable with high patient turnover and diverse diagnoses
  • First-time travelers accepted 

 

Certifications:

  • BLS from AHA (Required) 

 

Charting System:

  • Epic (Required)

Scheduling & Expectations:

  • Rotating shifts (days/nights)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating required within facility needs
  • Guaranteed hours: facility may cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Orientation: 24 hours 

 

Additional Notes:

  • South Carolina or compact RN license required
  • Up to 7 days RTO preferred (approval required for more)
  • Hurricane season (June–November): possible emergency assignment requirement
