Registered Nurse - Cardiac Observation Unit
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Provide high-level nursing care for patients in the Cardiac Observation Unit (COU), focusing on Cath Lab patients pre- and post-procedure. Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating assigned patients and planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care
- Assisting physicians during examinations and procedures
- Performing patient tests and administering medications within RN scope of practice
- Preparing patients for Cath procedures, Cardioversions (CV), and Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE)
- Recovering patients following Cath procedures involving conscious sedation
- Sedating, circulating, and documenting bedside procedures (CV & TEE)
- Discharging patients with teaching, documentation, and physical discharge
The unit cares for high-risk, high-acuity patients and performs bedside procedures such as TEE and Cardioversions.
Shift Information
- Varies: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day shifts between 6:00 AM and 8:30 PM)
- Call requirements include Saturdays and Sundays on a rotational basis, approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks
- Weekend call hours: Saturday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, Sunday 7:00 AM–2:00 PM
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Arizona
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Electrophysiology Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- Cardiac Cath Lab experience
- Telemetry experience
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
