Job Summary

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) for an inpatient acute care assignment within the Rehabilitation Services department. This role supports adult patients recovering from medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, and neurological conditions in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The PTA will work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists to deliver safe, effective, and goal-directed rehabilitative care focused on improving patient mobility, function, and independence.

Facility Overview

• Med-surg, trauma, and post-operative rehab services
• Collaborative interdisciplinary rehab team

Key Responsibilities

• Implement treatment plans developed by physical therapists
• Assist patients with mobility, strength, balance, and functional training
• Provide therapeutic exercises and gait training
• Safely transfer and position patients using proper body mechanics
• Utilize assistive devices such as:
  • Walkers (standard & rolling)
  • Crutches
  • Gait belts
  • Slings and prosthetics (upper & lower extremity)
• Support post-operative rehabilitation including:
  • Joint replacements (hip, knee)
  • Spinal surgeries
  • Shoulder and cervical procedures
• Assist in neurorehabilitation for conditions such as:
  • Stroke recovery
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • TBI and spinal cord injuries
• Document patient progress using approved charting systems
• Collaborate with PTs, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams

Required Qualifications

• Active California PTA license (required at submission)
• Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• Minimum 1 year of acute care hospital experience (adult population required)
• Current BLS certification

Preferred Experience

• Experience in:
  • Acute care hospital settings
  • Inpatient rehabilitation
  • Skilled nursing facilities (SNF) or outpatient rehab
• Familiarity with post-operative orthopedic and neurologic patient populations
• Strong understanding of mobility assistive devices and safe transfer techniques

Work Schedule & Expectations

• Monday–Friday, Day Shift (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
• Must comply with hospital safety and infection control standards

Facility Requirements

• Valid state PTA license required at submission
• BLS certification required
• References required prior to submission
• Return staff must have 1-year separation from prior assignment
