Shift: 12 Hour Nights
General InformationBeds: 15 bed Pediatric Unit; 5 Bed PICUExperience required: 1.5 years general nursing experience (system requirement)Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only if greater than 2 years of experience (system requirement)Patient Types:Will work through both Gen Peds and PICUPediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age and adult overflow (stable medical s/p appendectomy, s/p cholecystectomy, cellulitis, etc.). The diagnosis of these patients varies from respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries. The general surgeries may include ear/nose/throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma.Advanced Care Pediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care services.The most common disease entities you may care for in our Advanced Care Pediatrics Unit include but are not limited to:?acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases leading to major organ system dysfunction, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, toxic ingestions/exposures, trauma, hematologic and oncologic disease.Patient Ratios:RN General Pediatrics - 1:5Advanced Care Pediatrics: 1:1-2Required Certifications:RN: BLS, PALS, NIHSS NRP is notrequiredRequired Education:Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing;Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of NursingSkills required:Physical assessment of patients, ages 0 AdultEvaluate patient symptoms and associated vital signsAdminister medications as prescribedEducate patients and families on plan of careProficient use of EPIC charting systemPICU experience ability to titrate dripsand care for the mechanically ventilated patient.Support on the Unit:CNA (Ratio: 1:5)Charge nurse: 1 charge nurse covers both units free floatingPhlebotomy? RNs and Nurse Aids draw their own labsIV/VAT Team? RNs start their own IVs and have Ultrasound available for difficult IVs.Resource Nurse: Nurse Clinician/Nurse EducatorCase Management and Social WorkRT: YesHospitalist: Yes, with Pediatric APP supportAdditional Support: Pediatric Pharmacy, Pediatric Social Work and Case ManagementCharting System/Equipment:EPICOmnicellFloating: If yes, where?NICU 30 bed feeder/growers 1:3 ratiosOrientation:(facility and unit) 1 day facility orientation to include online and in person training2 days unit orientation with preceptorScheduling:Weekend rotation: Every otherWill they be on call?
