Registered Nurse (RN) – Central Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units with a diverse patient population.
- Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end stage renal disease), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological issues (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
- Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
- Manage IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and IV therapy.
- Use equipment including Epic electronic record, Pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, sequential compression devices (SCDs) for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
- Float to other medical units as needed (only to other medical units).
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
- Patient ratios approximately 1:5-6
Required Qualifications
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 1 year of MedSurg nursing experience within the last year
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
- Epic electronic health record training

- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
- No call or working alone details specified
- Floating limited to medical units only
