Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:00 - 6:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Staffing Ratio: 1:6


Job Description

  • Work primarily with medical-surgical patients including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, COVID-19, chest pain, small bowel obstruction, and a small surgical caseload (1-3 post-surgical cases per day) such as gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, colectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy.
  • Telemetry and IV start skills are required.
  • Every other weekend shift required.
  • Locals are not accepted; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • Holiday blackout for return to office: July 1 - July 6.
  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • Telemetry competency
  • IV Start competency

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS Level III
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcript/diploma required (may be pending at start)
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (supervisory or managerial titles required)
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days (covering 7 years)
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
  • Fit test for approved respirators (N95 or PAPR) within 12 months of start
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray and documentation required
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (history not accepted; vaccines required if titer negative)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination preferred but not required
  • Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

Additional Information

  • Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start (time sensitive)
  • On-site fit testing is limited and not available at certain campuses; PAPR use requires prior facility approval
  • Holiday blackout period for return to office applies July 1-6
  • Charge pay available (not included here per instructions)
