Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT/MLT) performs routine and complex laboratory testing in a high-complexity clinical laboratory environment. This role is responsible for specimen analysis, result validation, quality control, and adherence to regulatory standards to support accurate patient diagnosis and treatment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations:

  • Perform specimen handling, processing, and analysis per established SOPs
  • Conduct routine and high-complexity testing using approved methodologies
  • Review, validate, and release laboratory results accurately and timely
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all testing activities

Quality & Compliance:

  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety standards
  • Perform and document quality control (QC), calibration, and maintenance
  • Ensure proficiency testing is handled identically to patient specimens
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audits as required

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

  • Identify and resolve testing discrepancies or instrument issues
  • Escalate unresolved issues to senior technologists or supervisors
  • Document all corrective actions and deviations from performance standards

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Report critical (STAT) results per departmental protocols
  • Communicate effectively with lab staff, clinicians, and clients
  • Provide support and training on new procedures when needed

General Duties:

  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
  • Ensure proper labeling and tracking of reagents and test kits
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions
  • Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment appropriately

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology OR
  • BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, or related science OR
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology

Certification:

  • ASCP or AMT Certification (Required or Eligible)

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience (high-complexity testing preferred)

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies and workflows
  • Understanding of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) practices
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments and multiple LIS systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
