Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:7


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit.
  • Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record system (no exceptions).
  • Required skills include IV starts, telemetry interpretation, and experience working with neurology/stroke patients.
  • Work schedule includes nights, weekdays, every other weekend, float, and holidays.
  • Overtime available after 48 hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia.
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year.
  • 2 years or more of total travel nursing experience.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience working with neurology and stroke patients.
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date, updated annually.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year of start; PAPR not allowed.
  • Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or valid declination forms:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within past 10 years (no exemptions accepted).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-Spot) within 1 year; if history of positive TB, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually by October 31, or approved medical/religious exemption with mask-wearing during shifts.
  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available.

Background and Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
  • Fingerprinting required for all candidates starting January 1, 2026, with clearance required prior to start for certain specialties.
  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Completion of various facility-specific documents including job description acknowledgment, safety manual, and pyxis acknowledgment (for RNs).

  • Proof of 2 professional references.
  • Completed employment application/resume.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually.
  • Passport-style photo (shoulders up, front facing, plain background) required before start.
  • Must submit Qualivis Cover Sheet and current NURSYS report including all Return to Office (RTO) documentation.

Additional Notes

  • Patient ratio is 1:7; candidates must be pre-closed on this ratio before submission.
  • This is an auto-offer position.
  • Candidates must indicate shift preference between 3x12 or 4x12 schedules.
  • Facility has a strict zero tolerance policy for any license or background issues.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a coastal Virginia location near outdoor recreational areas, including hiking trails and waterways.
